What version of JAVA do I need?

Java 1.5.0_05 (or an earlier version) is required to run certain applications in Vista. Do not use Java 1.5 Update 6 (1.5.0_06) or later versions, as they are not supported in Vista.

Please note that we have found that the "Check Browser" utility will approve newer versions of java that are not actually supported by Vista. In addition, the utility will show that Vista should work properly even when J2SE Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is not installed. If you are experiencing numerous error and/or certificate messages as well as odd Vista behavior, you will need to install the correct version of Java.
